Preventative Care

Passing Down Smiles from Generation to Generation

Preventative dental care is the practice of maintaining good oral health through daily habits, professional services, and early intervention to stop dental problems before they start or worsen. It focuses on avoiding common issues like tooth decay (cavities), gum disease (periodontal disease), enamel wear, and tooth loss, while also supporting overall health since oral health links to conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and more.

  • A comprehensive dental exam (also called a Complete Oral Evaluation or New Patient Exam) is a thorough, in-depth assessment of your entire oral health. It goes well beyond a routine check up or cleaning to establish a complete baseline of your dental and overall health. Dentist typically perform this exam for new patients or periodically for existing patients to detect issues early and create a personalized treatment plan.

  • This is an examination of the face, neck, lymph nodes, tongue, throat, and soft tissues for abnormalities.

  • X-Ray's offer a visual record of your mouth for documentation and education. Full Mouth Series, Bitewings, Panoramic, and 3D scans help to identify problems such as cavities, gum disease, oral cancer, and discussing preventative or treatment options.

  • Dental or Oral Hygiene is the practice of keeping your mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent dental problems like cavities, gum disease, bad breath, and tooth loss. It combines daily personal habits with professional care to maintain optimal oral health throughout life.

  • Periodontal therapy (also called periodontal treatment) is specialized dental care focused on preventing, controlling, and treating gum disease (periodontitis and gingivitis). It targets the infection and inflammation affecting the gums, the bone, and other tissues that support your teeth. The goal is to eliminate bacterial plaque and tartar (calculus), reduce pocket depths, stop disease progression, promote healing, and help preserve your natural teeth for life. It can be non-surgical or surgical depending on the severity.

  • Fluoride treatments are professional applications of high-strength fluoride (as varnish, gel, or foam) to the teeth that strengthen enamel, promote remineralization, prevent cavities, and reverse early tooth decay—providing targeted protection beyond daily brushing and flossing.

  • A night guard is a custom-fitted, removable dental appliance worn primarily at night to protect teeth and jaws from damage caused by grinding and clenching (bruxism). It acts as a cushioning barrier that prevents tooth wear, fractures, jaw pain, and TMJ issues while promoting better oral health.

  • Dental sleep apnea treatment, known as Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT), utilizes a custom-fitted mouthpiece worn during sleep. It treats mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) by gently shifting the jaw or tongue forward. This action opens your airway, preventing soft tissues from collapsing and stopping breathing interruptions.

  • TMJ therapy consists of non-invasive treatments to relieve jaw pain, reduce muscle tension, and restore joint mobility. It primarily involves physical therapy, custom-fitted oral appliances (night guards/splints), lifestyle modifications, and medications.

  • Dental anesthesia is a medical technique that uses specialized medications to temporarily block nerve signals and manage pain during oral procedures. We offer simple local numbing and nitrous, ensuring you remain comfortable and anxiety-free while treatment is completed.
